Environmental Progress Beneath Our Feet

Right now, some of the most sophisticated construction technology is being deployed to advance the Bay Park Conveyance Project – an undertaking that will improve water quality, quality of life and protect our environment – designed to minimize disruptions to South Shore communities.

Currently, Western Bays Constructors (WBC) is establishing three of the eight vertical shafts along the Bay Park microtunneling alignment that will allow tunneling deep beneath the earth. WBC has completed an innovative Jet Grout Trial Program and Soil Mix Test Program that minimizes the amount of concrete required to support the pipeline at both Bay Park Shaft 1 and Bay Park Shaft 2, which will eventually connect via the underground microtunnel.

In addition, WBC has begun work at seven pits along Sunrise Highway, from Freeport to Bellmore, and has completed all  environmental and geotechnical borings necessary to advance construction across the Project corridor.

WBC will continue to provide you with timely information on the Project’s progress and its considerable environmental benefits.
